Harvey is the rainiest storm in U.S. history
Harvey has dumped more than 49 inches southeast of Houston, a new record for the continental United States.
The previous record of 48 inches was set in tropical cyclone Amelia in 1978, also in Texas. Mary's Creek, Texas, recorded 49.32 inches of rain today 29th August 2017 Houston's Addicks Reservoir also began to spill over Tuesday, sending more water into already drenched neighborhoods and marking the first time the major dam, located on the west side of Houston, has ever overspilled. BBC noted that while the reservoir spillover "would not cause the Addicks dam to fail, it would add more water to the Buffalo Bayou," the main river flowing into Houston. |
